Alfred "Al" W. McCollum of Sheridan, Arkansas was born December 7, 1955, the son of Helen "Bea" Cross Pearson and the late Allen McCollum. He was a Christian, was employed at the Arkansas Department of Corrections as an Industrial Supervisor at Wrightsville, had retired after 23 years with the Arkansas National Guard, having achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant, and had worked special assignment for Arkansas State police for 9 years. He was also an avid outsdoorsman, gardener and a gifted carpenter. Al was well respected by all who knew him and he will be missed.

Al died Friday, August 5, 2011 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock at the age of 55 after a valiant battle with small cell cancer.

Survivors: His devoted wife and best friend of 13 years as of August 1, 2011, Danita Hale McCollum of Sheridan;
Mother, Bea Pearson of Brinkley;
Brother, Alvin McCollum of Mississippi;
Sister, Tammy and husband David Thomas of Mississippi;
A host of aunts and uncles, especially his special aunts, Vicki, Louise, Virgie;

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan. Although the service will conclude at the chapel, he will be buried at Grapevine Cemetery. Visitation: 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
