Obituary
Albert M. "Pop" Mathews of Hensley, Arkansas was born December 6, 1937 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of the late O.D. and Lochie Gantz Mathews. He was a member of Marlow Missionary Baptist Church and was active with the Senior Adults and sang in the choir. He was the king of comedy, writing quirky jokes and poems and he loved to gather with his friends at Harvest Foods in East End and eat McDonald's every morning. He retired from Pat Salmon and Sons Trucking and was a K-9 MP with the United States Air Force.
Mr. Mathews died at UAMS in Little Rock, Arkansas at the age of 76.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Pointer Mathews, a step-son, David Donham, siblings, Bobby Taylor, Edna Heitschmidt, Helynn Beasley, Billy Mathews, O.D. Jr. Mathews, Helen Jones, and Margaret Rath.
Survivors: sons, Dale and wife Linda Donham; Brian and Stacey Donham ; daughter, Karen and husband Monroe Wilkerson all of Hensley; daughter-in-law, Teresa Donham Gilliam; brother, Joe Mathews and wife Joanie of Sheridan; sisters, Betty Jane Young of Florida , Connie Bain of Maumelle and his faithful dog, Ladybug.
Grandchildren, Everette Wilkerson, Staci Wilkerson, April Flora, Natasha Howard, Sam Donham, Alex Donham, Michael Donham, Stormy Donham and Will Donham; great grandchildren, Miranda Wilkerson, Haley Wilkerson, Christian Wilkerson, Austin Robinson, Gracie Wilkerson, Hayden Wilkerson, Jordan Flora, Levi Flora, and Ariana Flora, Chase Howard and Bryce Wilkerson and a host of friends and church family.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Marlow Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Robert Standley officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery in East End. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4:00 until 6:00 on Saturday.
Pallbearers are Boyd Ingle, Gordon Anderson, Henry Earl Whitmire, Wayne Aiken, Jesse Flora and Boyd Laster. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Stacks and Larry Duncan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Marlow Missionary Baptist Church, 49 Grant 58, Sheridan, AR 72150.
