Georgia "Alma" Mitchell Shilling went to sing with the angels Monday, April 29, 2019 at Sheridan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sheridan at the age of 93. She was born on March 26, 1926 to the late George R. Mitchell and Pearla Alma Milks Mitchell.
She worked as a waitress and was Activity and Social Director for 18 years at the local nursing homes. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, camping, fishing, and working with her flowers. After retirement, she made graduation quilts for graduates with dates and achievements and awards on them. She also made lap robes for hospital rehabs, nursing homes, and individuals. She had a tape ministry of singing Gospel songs and they went all over the United States, mostly with truck drivers. She was an accomplished guitar player and collected Gospel song books. Loving going to church, she would minister through her singing and tapes, all the while performing specials at many churches.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, "Jack" Jasper L. Shilling; son, "Ronnie" Ray Shilling; brothers, Harry "Buddy" Leon Daggett and Johnathan "Val" Mitchell; sisters, Edith Ray Ashley, Mary Jo McCluer, "Juanita" Brownlee and "Thelma" Jean Bradford; and one great grandson.
Survivors include sons, "Wayne" (Pam) Leonard Shilling of Redfield and Robin Spencer Shilling (Kim) of Alexander; daughters, Roberta "Dianne"(Arthur) Helmkamp of East End and "Bonnie" Fay Leonard of Noel, Missouri; brothers, Edward "Gene" Mitchell of Okolona, Harvey "Buddy" Leon Daggett of Fort Worth, Texas, "Clifford" Martin Mitchell of Fairfield Bay, "Charles" Dean Mitchell of Arkadelphia, "Val" Johnathan Mitchell of Hot Springs; sister, "Letha" (Grady) Janet Earls of East End; Thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and seventeen great, great, grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday May 2, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the chapel with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery in East End.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Cemetery, 3413 Lorance Drive, Little Rock, Arkansas 72206.
