Obituary

Amanda Mankin Mitchell was born July 21st, 1972 to George Mankin and Denice Nall in Pine Bluff. On December 27th, 2023, Amanda passed away at home in Sheridan, surrounded by those dearest to her heart at the age of 51.

She spent the first six years of her life in Watson, Arkansas relishing being the sole recipient of her grandmother's love and affection. Her time as an only child ended with the arrival of her sister, Megan, who she believed was her very own, personal baby doll. When she thought it couldn't get any better, Alison's arrival followed three years later. It was thanks to Megan and Alison that she perfected her management and supervision skills, which would later benefit Amanda in her professional life. Rumor has it that it was Alison, in particular, who sparked her appreciation for a good argument which eventually led her to practice law.

Amanda graduated from the University of Central Arkansas, where she majored in English because of her love of reading and literature. This left her with little to no choice but to pursue a law degree. After graduating from the William H. Bowen School of Law in 1996, Amanda went to work for Pulaski County where she used her many skills, both born with and learned, to serve the public in numerous positions.

Her proudest accomplishments in life, however, were neither academic nor professional. Her three children were her greatest loves. Amanda enjoyed nothing more than being a mother. However, her concern wasn't limited to just her children, but to all of those whom she loved. Some would say she was bossy, she would say she was "just concerned" and "had better ideas."

Amanda never met a stranger that she liked. Despite this, those who were in her circle were able to pierce the hard exterior and discover the huge heart that existed underneath. While she kept her circle small, those in her circle she loved fiercely and unconditionally. She was dependable, and always had an answer to any question; if she didn't, which wasn't often, she would figure it out. There wasn't a single problem that would be faced alone if she was in your life.

Despite her almost daily claims to dislike people, Amanda had a huge heart. She was full of compassion for those who didn't have the same advantages. She always rooted for the underdog. She was easily brought to tears over commercials and Hallmark cards. Her vocabulary for curse words was expansive, and she knew how to use them well to defend her loved ones, regardless of whether the threat was real or perceived. She was a dyed-in-the-wool, liberal, yellow-dog Democrat and proud of it. She had zero tolerance for ignorance, racism, or bigotry, and was quick to make that known. For those of us who knew and loved her, the world is a darker place without her in it.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Megan Mankin, and her father, Kemp Nall. Her survivors include her son, Clint Hare (Raegan) of Conway; daughters, Emma and Caroline Mitchell of Sheridan; mother, Denice Nall of Sheridan; father, George Mankin of Marshall; sister, Alison Mankin Robertson (Caper) of Watson; brother, Bryce Nall (Jennifer) of Little Rock; sister, Jenny Nall Manning of Bryant; granddaughter, Maddox Hare; grandson, Emmett Hare; nieces, Reece Robertson, Lillian Nall, Kinley Morrow, and Morgan Manning; aunt, Margo Shoffner of Little Rock; her chosen sister, Karla Burnett of Sherwood; and many other family members and friends.
