Arthur Eugene Harrison of Leola, Arkansas, was born January 1, 1925 in Leola, the son of the late Wylie and Virgie Cathey Harrison. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served in the European Theater during World War II. As a member of the 29th Infantry Division - 115th Regiment, he was among the first arrivals at Omaha Beach (Normandy, France) during the D-Day Invasion to begin the liberation of Europe on June 6, 1944. Mr. Harrison was retired from the Rock Island Railroad and C&S Lumber Company. He loved being outdoors, especially during deer season, and always had a beautiful vegetable garden. He and his loving wife Betty recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on August 7.
Arthur passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019, at the V.A. Medical Center in Little Rock, at the age of 94. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Harrison; brothers, Jack, Cecil, Thurman, and Floyd; and sisters, Helen and Dorothy.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Betty Caldwell Harrison, son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Virginia Harrison of Leola; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Tim McGarity of Sheridan: grandchildren, Mitchell Harrison, Robbie Harrison (Susan), Eric Harrison (Melanie), Alana Williams (Brent), 9 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at the Leola Cemetery in Leola, AR with his grandson, Bro. Robbie Harrison and his grandson-in-law, Bro. Brent Williams officiating. Visitation is Monday, August 26, 2019, from 6 PM to 8 PM at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home of Sheridan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Leola Cemetery Association, 6370 Hwy 46 South, Sheridan, AR 72150.
