IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara
Calaway
October 23, 1946 – October 4, 2024
Barbara Ann Calaway was born on October 23, 1946, in Brickeys, AR to Barney and Myrtle Alldredge of Brickeys, AR. She was the seventh of eight children, born in a place that some would consider rural, but to her, it was heaven. She was from a large family and had many wonderful childhood memories there. A few years after moving to Memphis to become a nurse, she moved to Little Rock, where she and her loving husband, Buddy, began a beautiful life together. Their early years were spent playing golf at Western Hills Country Club, where they made many friends that lasted a lifetime and were crowned the hula-hoop champions of the Country Club.
She was the nurse and right hand to Dr. George Holitik for over 30 years. In her years of nursing she touched many lives and gave the best shots. She spent many of her days off making house calls to her patients, whether it was to deliver food, provide nursing care or just to visit those in need. She often made Buddy go with her on these house calls. Barbara couldn't go anywhere without a patient stopping her and if we had a nickel for every time we were told she was an angel, we would be wealthy.
If you had ever met her, you knew instantly that Buddy Calaway was her other half. Their love story was one for the storybooks. From him riding his bicycle for several miles on a dirt road just to see her when they were kids to winning trophies on horses in barrel pickup to the many golf tournaments (and after-parties), there was no doubt that they were the couple everyone wanted to be and were a shining example of love and partnership for their children, Sandy and Andy.
Barbara was a perfect example of what a mother should be, and no one was more appreciative of it than their children. As the only daughter and oldest child, Sandy and her mom shared a special bond. Even when she became a mom herself, Sandy always tried to match the example her mom had set for her. Barbara and Buddy's love of golf was shared with Andy even as a toddler. As he grew Barbara proudly followed him around the states to watch almost every one of his thousands of tournaments. Sandy and Andy blessed Barbara and Buddy with four grandkids and six great-grandkids.
Barbara went to her heavenly home on October 4, 2024. She was welcomed by her parents, Barney and Myrtle Alldredge, as well as her brothers John, Jeff and Buddy Alldredge and her sisters Mary and Bernice Alldredge. She was also welcomed by her grandchildren, Taylor Calaway and Gage Kimbrell. She is survived by her childhood sweetheart and husband, Clyde "Buddy" Calaway, her two children, Sandy Calaway and Andy Calaway (Jackie), four grandchildren: Amy Kimbrell (Bobby), Brad Harrell (Brittany), Alex Calaway (Presley), and Kailey Calaway, and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Pat Fortune and Debbie Fike. She also leaves behind her longtime best friend and the other half of "The Barbaras", Barbara Mountjoy.
Pallbearers: Brad Harrell, Alex Calaway, Bobby Kimbrell, Colton Kimbrell, Weston Kimbrell, Tim Walden, Ronnie Harrell, and Keith Jackson.
