Obituary

Rev. Basil Edwards of Sheridan, Arkansas was born November 11, 1915 at, the son of the late Oscar J. and Hazel Harper Edwards. His mother died when he was just 3 years old and after his father remarried, he was also raised by his Step-mother, Elva Edwards. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church at Sheridan and had served as Pastor of Assemblies of God Churches in Leola, Harrison, Warren, West Memphis and Little Rock. He formerly served on the Arkansas Assemblies of God Executive Presbytery Board. Bro. Edwards was a true servant of God and lived his testimony every day. In addition to being a Pastor, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

After a life of Preaching about and living for Jesus, Rev. Edwards went home to be with him, Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at his home in Sheridan at the age of 91. Welcoming him to Heaven were his parents, brothers, Donald and O.J. Edwards, and sisters, Arline Moody and Lorene Holiman, his son, Richard Dale Edwards and his wife and best friend, Janie Ezelle Freeman Edwards to whom he was married for 68 years.

Survivors include his daughters, Jane Ellen Whitten and husband Russell of Sikeston, Missouri and Sally Ann Jones of North Little Rock; Brothers, Eugene Edwards of Poyen and Johnny Edwards of Prattsville; Sisters, Bobbie Byrd of Malvern and Frances Smedley of Hot Springs; Grandchildren, Scott Jones, David Russell Whitten II, Ashley Jones, Richard Jones and Whitney Whitten; Great Grandchildren, Andrew Jones, Lauren Whitten, David Russell Whitten III, Ellen Whitten, William Jones, Audrey Whitten and Presley Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, November 17, 2006 at First Assembly of God Church at Sheridan with Rev. Jimmy Bobo and Arkansas Assemblies of God District Superintendent Rev. Larry Moore officiating. Burial will be in Lost Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
