Bernard Basil Buckalew of Sheridan, Arkansas, formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, was born March 29, 1931 at Williams, Iowa, the son of the late Ivle and Adah Munden Buckalew. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Army as an Airborne Ranger. He was a retired mechanic and had a great sense of humor.

Mr. Buckalew died Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff at the age of 80. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Buckalew; son, Kevin Buckalew; and brothers, James, Harold, and Marvin Buckalew.

Survivors include his niece, Shannon and husband James Godwin, and their children and grandchildren, Bill and Tonya Godwin, Bryan and Wendy Godwin, Zachary Godwin, and Lauren Godwin, all of Sheridan.

Funeral services will be held in Des Moines, Iowa, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Disabled Veterans, P. O Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301.
