Obituary

Betty J. Cox, 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 13, 2019. She was born August 9, 1932 in Pasadena, California to Charles and Loraine Winchell. In 1948, she graduated from Pasadena City College High School. Shortly after she moved with her family to Abqaiq, Saudi Arabia.

She married in Bahrain and lived in Abqaiq where she had five sons. She was a loving and busy mother; serving as Cub Scout and Boy Scout Den mother, chauffeuring to varies sporting events, practices, and countless other activities. She loved playing Bridge and hosted weekly Bridge parties for her friends. Betty was a champion league bowler and ballroom dancer.

She returned to the United States in 1968 and settled in Sheridan, Arkansas with her family. She continued to be supermom making sure to support her sons in all they did; even ensuring the cheerleading team had transportation to her sons' away games. She was a dedicated member of the Eastern Star and loved serving. Betty had an in-home daycare for many years and loved nurturing children. She was a member of First Baptist Church Sheridan, where she kept the nursery and enjoyed worshipping with family.

In her later years, she joined First Baptist Church Center Ridge, Arkansas. Betty spent her final years lovingly cared for by the wonderful staff of Salem Place Nursing and Rehabilitation in Conway, Arkansas.

She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Loraine Winchell; two brothers Jack and Robert Winchell; and three sons David, Stephen, Andrew Witherow. She is survived by her brother Don Winchell (Agnes); two sons Barry Witherow (Donna) and Karl Witherow (Karen); daughter-in-law Joan Witherow, grandchildren Sam Witherow, Zach Witherow, Andrea Baker (Josh), Amy Landers (Wayne), Kasey Goulart (Cody), Joshua Witherow, Jacob Witherow, and Allison Witherow Pruitt; eight great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.

To honor Betty's final wishes, no service will be held. Memorial gifts may be directed to Salem Place Nursing Rehabilitation, 2401 Christina Lane, Conway, AR 72034.
