Betty Balwanz Jordan, also known as "Candy" to many, was born October 17, 1944 at Auburn, Alabama, the daughter of the late James "Jim" and Jeanne Winn Balwanz. She was a 1962 graduate of Sheridan High School and was retired as Grant County Assessor, after 16 years in that position. She had previously worked in other offices within the courthouse as well.
Betty died Friday, January 16, 2015, at her home in Sheridan, surrounded by her family and close friends, at the age of 70. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Carol Madeley Balwanz.
Survivors include her sons, Todd Alan and wife Cindy Jordan, James Jason "Bo" Jordan; brother, Rick Balwanz, all of Sheridan; grandsons, Jonathan Jordan of Searcy, David "Davy" Jordan of Sheridan; nieces, Jessica Balwanz Lasley and husband Brian, Morgan Balwanz Wilson and husband Derrick; great nieces, Caroline Lasley, Claudia Lasley, Madeley Wilson; she is also survived by a host of friends.
Betty was a "no-fuss" type of person. She requested that instead of bringing food or sending flowers, that you would help those whose calling it is to help others, by sending any memorial contributions to Baptist Health Hospice, 11900 Colonel Glenn Road, Suite 2000, Little Rock, Arkansas 72210. There will be no visitation and a private family service will be held at a later date. A true "lady" in every way, she lived and died with dignity, and her legacy of kindness, compassion, and love, will live on through those who were blessed enough to be a part of her life. The words of Eleanor Roosevelt describe so well, not only Betty's brief fight with cancer, but also her philosophy on life, when she said: "It is better to light one small candle than to curse the darkness." Through a life of service to her family, friends, and community, Betty lit many "candles", and the light of her life will continue to shine.
