William Howard "Bill" Davis of Sheridan, Arkansas, was born April 28, 1941 at Lillie, Louisiana, the son of the late John Robert and Gladys Dison Davis. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Sheridan, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing dominoes, working in his yard and offering a helping hand for his friends and neighbors in any way that he could. He was a mechanic by trade and used those skills to help countess people in need. Bill was a proud veteran of United States Navy, having served in the Vietnam War. He served aboard the USS Salisbury and was awarded 3 purple hearts.
Mr. Davis died Sunday, December 28, 2014 at his home in Sheridan, at the age of 73. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Lavelle Davis and Raymond Davis, and a sister, Eunice.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Bobbie J. Davis of Sheridan; sons, Donald Hensley of South Dakota, Michael and wife Cyndi Davis of Raleigh, North Carolina, John R. Davis of Sheridan; daughter, Barbara Sue Davis of Tampa, Florida; brothers, Jim Davis of Benton, John Davis of Sheridan; sister, Lillian Sweeney of Illinois; grandchildren, Sarah Davis, Ashley Davis, Billy Davis, Joshua Pettyjohn, Patrick Pettyjohn, Jessica Pettyjohn, Daryl Vandyke, Dillon S. Ryals; great grandchildren, Lilly Pettyjohn, Jaxson Pettyjohn.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Sheridan with Rev. Gary Copeland officiating. Committal service will be at 2:00 P.M. at Caanan Baptist Cemetery in Spearsville, Louisiana. Visitation is Tuesday, 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
