IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bob Spears
(Robbins)
May 16, 1944 – May 21, 2022
Robert L. Spears, known to generations of friends and fans as Bob Robbins, passed away May 21, 2022. He was born on May 16, 1944 in Auburndale, FL to the late Lenard and Georgia Spears. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, 12 siblings, father & mother-in law, J.C. and Bernadine Dorsey, Brother in laws Harvey Skorcz, Stephen and Stuart Dorsey, and nephew Joseph Hill.
Bob was a larger than life man with a beautiful smile and personality that loved his God, family and country. He loved spending time hunting, fishing and outdoor activities with his family and friends. He also loved and excelled at having fish fry's, crawfish boils and barbecuing. Bob never met a stranger, made friends easily and he was especially drawn to children and devoted himself to organizations whose purpose was to bring happiness to children. He also never saw a puppy, horse or truck that he didn't fall in love with. He was a member of Sheridan First United Methodist Church.
Bob was a huge supporter and promoter of country music, earning numerous awards for his endeavors, including CMA Personality of the Year, induction into the CMA Disc Jockey Hall of Fame and he was looking forward to receiving the Arkansas Country Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award on June 6, 2022, which will be awarded posthumously. Bob spent years at BJ's Star Studded Honky Tonk spinning country music records and hosting Country Music entertainers.
Bob was comfortable, like the easy chair in your living room. He made people feel as if they were worth listening to. He was a lot of things, but he wasn't uppity. He was about as down to earth as anyone you have known. He was the VOICE at KSSN and WOLF for years and that voice was like a magnet – once you heard it you couldn't stop listening. Most of us can still hear his voice in our heads and won't forget it even if we wanted to. It was a voice that instilled in its listeners a sense of down-homeyness. That voice came through the radio and sat down beside you and made you forget your troubles for a while. It was a voice that you took with you. It was a voice that made you feel as though it was only talking to you. It was the voice of a friend. There will never be another Bob, but as much as he accomplished in his life, and as much as he did for those around him, maybe one Bob was enough.
Bob is survived by his wife of 45 years Susan, sons; Ben (Jessica), of Metter, GA., Robert (Brooke) daughter; Stephanie, grandchildren; Harley, Hagan, Dorsey, Bryar and Oakley Spears; bonus grandchildren, John, Blake, and Sarah; sister-in-law Sharon Skorcz, all of Sheridan, AR and a brother, Jeff Spears of Florida. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many, many friends.

Anyone who knew Bob, knew that one of his favorite projects every year was helping make "Toy Hill" and the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots program a success, helping to put smiles on the faces of countless children in Arkansas. We ask that everyone attending the visitation or funeral service, bring an unwrapped toy as a tribute to Bob and this great cause that he was so passionate about. Just like Toy Hill, there will be a collection station outside the Church. You can also make monetary contributions toward this program. Even after his death, he's still taking care of the people of his beloved Arkansas.
