Bonnie Jean Butler Phillips of Leola, Arkansas was born November 24, 1928 in Leola, the daughter of the late Walter Alex and Bertie Mae Harrison Butler. She was a member of Leola United Methodist Church and owned and operated Bonnie's Café in Leola for a number of years. Bonnie and Homer were the caretaker's at Cox Creek Lake in Leola for several years and made so many good friends during that time. She enjoyed good old Gospel music, and in her earlier years, would go to "singings" all over the area. One of the other joys she had was the time she spent in the catering business. However, in recent years, if you wanted to find Bonnie, all you'd have to do is find out where one of her grandkids or great grandkids was playing ball or performing in any way, and that's where she would be, cheering them on. She loved her family above all, and was so proud of all of them and their accomplishments. She served as unofficial mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, to the entire Leola community and she will definitely be missed, but she leaves a rich legacy of love and caring to all who knew her.
Mrs. Phillips died Friday, January 30, 2015 at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock at the age of 86. Bonnie's "Homegoing" was 5 years to the day after her husband of 63 years, Homer, who died January 30, 2010.
