Obituary

Carol Gene Tubbs of Sheridan, Arkansas, was born September 25, 1946, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.  He was the only son of the late Willie Eugene Tubbs and Bobbie Lawrence Lutrell Tubbs.  Carol passed away July 19, 2022, at his home surrounded by family.

At an early age, Carol and his parents moved to Santa Ana, California.  They lived near Disneyland for a portion of his childhood and enjoyed the memories and friendships made there.  In 1963, he and his best friend, Alan Kendall, drove back to Arkansas in a 1949 Chevrolet to live with his grandparents, Lawrence and Mattie Lutrell.  Carol attended his senior year of high school and graduated from Prattsville High in 1964.

After graduation, he began his career as a forestry technician with International Paper Company.  He retired after 38 years of dedicated service.  During this time, he served his country for 6 years in the Army Reserve.

Carol had a fervent love for the game of baseball and was an excellent pitcher with a mean curve ball.  He was looked at by major league scouts, and later played softball with local teams, but his love of home and family kept him in Arkansas.  He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, spending his retirement years doing what he loved.

Carol is survived by his wife and caregiver, Barbara Wilson Tubbs of 53 years, son Donald Tubbs and wife Donnita Tubbs of Sheridan, daughter Carla Tubbs and partner Adam Bray of Haskell and son Stephen Tubbs of Sheridan; grandchildren Britney Larue, Brooke LaRue, Katie Grace Tubbs, Brody Tubbs, Sawyer Tubbs, and Ryder Tubbs; great-grandchildren Harleigh Smith, Remington Fleming and Walker Langston.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 22, 2022, at 10:00 am at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Brother Brent Williams and Brother Ricky Poynor officiating.  Burial will follow at Moore's Chapel Cemetery.  Visitation will be 9:00am - 10:00am, prior to the service.

Pall bearers are Paul Wilson, Danny Duck, Dennis Clark, Scott Clark, Eddie O'Steen, and David Mulligan.  Honorary pallbearers are Brody Tubbs and Sawyer Tubbs.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Moore's Chapel Cemetery Fund.
