Obituary
Delores Tarkington Green of Sheridan, Arkansas was born December 17, 1934 in Donaldson, Arkansas to Doyle and Mozell Tarkington. After graduating from Ouachita High School in 1952, she attended Draughon School of Business. After graduation, she went to work as a bookkeeper for Ottenheimer, one of the largest women's garment manufacturing plants in America and then took a position at Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company in North Little Rock.
One Saturday afternoon, she drove from Little Rock to visit a friend who lived in Sheridan. While waiting at the café where her friend worked, she met Leonard Green. They started dating and eloped to Indianola, Mississippi on March 10, 1956. They lived in North Little Rock until 1966 when they, along with her mother Mozell, moved to the Green family land north of Sheridan. In June 1966, they adopted Arlene and in November 1966, they adopted Jim.
With the adoption of two children, Delores became a stay at home Mom until 1978 when she went to work for Sheridan LP Gas Company. Three years later, she went to work for the Arkansas Teacher Retirement System where she stayed until retirement in 1999. She and Leonard enjoyed retirement together for 12 years.
Delores died February 11, 2017 at home due to complications from kidney disease at the age of 82. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James Leonard Green.
Survivors include her daughter Arlene Green of Sardis, son Jim Green and his wife Leann of Sheridan and her sister Shirley Lenard of Sheridan. She is also survived and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to her niece Kay Tannahill and husband Leslie, sister-in-law Louise Lavelle and her nephew Eddie Lavelle Jr. and wife Linda for their help and support after Leonard died and during her illness.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan with James King and Michael Walton officiating. Burial will be in Marvin Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Sam Green, Kelly Names, Leslie Tannahill,
Stephen Names, Matt Williams and Joe Robertson, Jr.
Honorary Pallbearers are Thomas Hammond, Jason Hughes, Elbert Green and MJ Green.
