Basil Dewayne Smith of Jacksonville, Arkansas was born December 4, 1952 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas the son of the late Basil L.C. and Dorothy Williams Smith. He was a faithful member at Lonoke Apostolic Church in Lonoke where he loved to sing and Praise his Lord. He was an accountant for the Department of Finance and Administration as well as a loving caregiver to his wife, Ruth.
Dewayne died Thursday, December 29, 2011 at UAMS at the age of 59.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half-brother, Hershel Ray Smith.
Survivors: Wife of 38 years, Wilma Ruth Richert Smith of Jacksonville;
Sister, Linda and husband Raymond Derrick of Sheridan;
Half-Brother, Charles Edward Smith of Dermott; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 2, 2011 at Hope Pentecostal Church in Sheridan with Rev. John Tackett, Rev. Carroll Taylor and Rev. Raymond Derrick officiating. Burial will follow at Lost Creek Cemetery in Sheridan. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Carl Gene Smith, Eddie Joe Williams, Steve Bryant, Linn Reed, Harold Cotton and Caroll Cotton. Honorary pallbearers are Chester Harper and Bryan Jamison.
