BENTONVILLE----DIXIE ELIZABETH COVINGTON HOWARD passed away, in her sleep, at Bradford House on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at the age of 100 years and 11 months.
Mrs. Howard was born in Saline County on September 11, 1911, to Bessie Laura and Benjamin Dixon Covington. She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather G. T. Greer; her husband of 67 years, Louis Howard, her sons Ralph Howard and Donald Howard; her brother, Burton Covington; half brother George Greer; and half sister Frances Elrod.
Survivors include a son Gary Howard (Marcia) of Bella Vista; daughters-in-law Betty and Caroline Howard both of Maumelle; seven grandchildren Scott Howard of Tulsa, OK; Alicia Teston (Michael) and children Blaine and Brenna of Maumelle; Gregory Howard (Jenifer) and children Taylor and Ashton of Los Angeles, CA; Tina Whetstone (Allen) and children Alexander and Abigail of Mililani, HA; Kyle (Lee) and step children Savanna and Sierra Woodham of Maumelle; Eric Howard (Mary) and daughters Aarin, Kristin, Lauryn, and stepdaughter Katrina Jones of Jacksonville; Kimberly Watson (Greg) and children Noah, Seth, and Hannah of San Francisco, CA; and Amy Hester and children Preston and Alissa Tomlinson of Elkins; half brother Kelly Estes Greer (Josephine) of Benton; and numerous nieces.
Mrs. Howard lived with her husband in Camden, AR for 52 years where she taught 7th grade science. She was chosen as the Arkansas Audubon Teacher of the year and won the Arkansas Chicken Cooking Contest. She was also listed in Who's Who in America. She was a talented painter and was a craftsman at Silver Dollar City.
Visitation will be at 1:00, Friday and the funeral service will be at 2:00 at First Baptist Church in Sheridan by Reverend Ernest DeSoto. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Sheridan, 1201 South Rock, Sheridan, AR 72150.
