DL Roberts of Sheridan, Arkansas was born June 7, 1937 at Rowell, Arkansas, the son of the late Alexander and Mary Irene Brown Roberts. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Sheridan, where he worked with the young people in the AWANA program, and any other ministry that needed him. D.L. volunteered for many years with the Immanuel Baptist Church Food Bank, helping to meet the needs of families in Sheridan. He was retired from Union Pacific as a locomotive engineer, after 46 years of service, and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Among the things he enjoyed doing, he wanted it known on the top of the list, that he loved to eat! He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and bowling, where he and Brenda retired as state doubles champions in 1981. His greatest joy was sharing fun and laughter with his family. With he and Brenda, there was never a dull moment, and together they brought joy to everyone they encountered.
DL got to meet his Jesus this past Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at Sheridan Rehabilitation Center, at the age of 83. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Floyd Roberts, Robert Roberts, Jimmy Roberts; sisters, Gracie Brown, Lucille Cleveland.
Survivors include his best friend and wife of 46 years, Brenda Stanley Roberts of Sheridan; sons, David Roberts (Doris) of Marshall, Texas, Larry Fetters (Cori) of Sherwood; daughters, Kathleen Yassine (Gus) of Bentonville, Shelly Fetters (Bridget Davenport) of Sheridan, Teresa Bell (Levi) of Little Rock, Mary Spagna (Lou) of Rogers, Lorri Ivey (Charlie Lewis) of Sheridan; brothers, Joe Hollan Roberts of White Hall, Olan Roberts of Rison, Joe Carl Roberts of Pine Bluff; grandchildren, Zach Sparks (Jesse), Casey Sparks, Toni Mae Fetters, Lauren Thomas (Charles David), Zachary Ivey, Matthew Ivey, Nicole Roberts, Ashley Roberts, Amber Bell, Hassain Yassine, Ali Yassine, Aya Yassine, Jordan Hanley (Richard); great grandchildren, Brayden Ivey, Ema Leigh Ivey, Aurora Hanley, Ghassan Yassine, Amelia Sparks. He is also survived by aa host of nieces, nephews, and many, many friends.
There will be no formal service in Sheridan, however a time of visitation will be held Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan, from 10:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. Bro. Gary Copeland will offer a Prayer at the conclusion of visitation. Graveside funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. at Bethel Cemetery, Russellville, Arkansas, with Bro. Michael Walton officiating.
Active pallbearers will be family members. Honorary pallbearers are Roger Johnson, Robert Fleming, Kerry McCool, David Clinton, DJ Ray, Jeff Jasso, Rick Earnhart, Casey Reed
