Donald Hugh "Don" Hawkins of Sheridan, Arkansas was born May 11, 1939 in St. Paul, Arkansas, the son of the late Henry Daniel and Annabel Jackson Hawkins. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sheridan where he was a member of the Sam McDonald Men's Sunday School Class. He had been co-owner of Sheridan Lumber and Supply with his dear friend, Leon Lancaster and had also owned Sheridan Ready Mix.
He was president of Sheridan Little League from 1968-1973 and had been president of Sheridan Babe Ruth. From 1961-1966 he coached Junior High football and taught PE, Sociology and History at Sheridan Schools.
Mr. Hawkins died at his home on Monday, October 19, 2015 at the age of 76.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Lou Reid Hawkins, sister, Lenita Schieffler and brother, Landon Hawkins.
Survivors: sons, Reid and wife Julie Hawkins of Wilmington, North Carolina, Richard and wife Susan Hawkins of Sheridan; sister, Corienne Varnell and husband Sonny of St. Paul, Arkansas; granddaughters, Olivia and Ella Hawkins, special friend, Ann Clark of Sheridan and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and church family.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 24, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Sheridan with Bro. Danny Schieffler and Bro. Ernest DeSoto officiating. Burial will follow at Tulip Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday night at the funeral home from 5-8 P.M.
Pallbearers are Gary Hines, Shelby Taylor, Herbie Waymack, Phil Shirron, Ronnie Matlock, Trent Oden, and Butch Campbell. Honorary pallbearers are the men of the Sam McDonald Sunday School Class.
