Obituary

Brian Douglas "Doug" Harlan also known as "Too Tall" of Sheridan, Arkansas was born July 10, 1956, in Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of the late Fred Willard and Zonia Mildred (Rusty) Harlan. He was a 1975 graduate of Sheridan High School. He loved to play softball and basketball.

Doug died Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock at the age of 64.

He retired from the Little Rock Fire Department as a Battalion Chief. During his time there, he was acting Battalion Chief at the airport on 9/11. He was granted honors to tour Air Force One.

Doug loved to hunt deer, turkey and duck. He also loved fishing. He started out bass fishing but recently learned to crappie fish and loved it. He loved taking his grandkids to the "Dog House" at Lake Ouachita and swimming with them. His golfing buddies can tell you stories about how he attempted to be a decent golfer, but as his health deteriorated, he missed the weekly Tuesday and Thursday golf games.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Renee' Simpson Harlan, who he called his "Angel" as she took care of him the past few years; children, Jacob (Madisun) Harlan of Lake Hamilton, and Kara Harlan of California. He also leaves behind three wonderful grandkids, Bentley, Peyton and Violet Harlan. They considered PaPaw to be the "Tickle Monster." He cherished every moment he had with them. They were the pride of his life. He is also survived by a brother, Gary (Annis) Quinlan of Hooker, Arkansas.

Dougs personality was one you could never forget. He loved to tease and joke with his friends and strangers, wherever he was, especially the doctor's office where he liked to make people laugh.

He will be greatly missed, but would want us to rejoice that he is with the Lord and no longer suffering.

Graveside service will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Lost Creek Cemetery with Bro. Dub Hedrick and Bro. Michael Daugherty officiating. There will be no visitation.

Due to Covid 19, masks must be worn and social distancing is required.

Pallbearers are Mike Moore, Wayne Shilling, Brandon Morrison, Bill Watson, Billy Kilmer Danniwayne Smith and Lee Morris. Honorary pallbearers are his golfing buddies.
