James Edward "Ed" Vance of Sheridan, Arkansas was born April 30, 1934, in Sheridan, the son of the late James Houston and Alma Marie Croy Vance. He was a member of TrueHope Church in Sheridan and was a retired construction worker. He enjoyed farming, gardening, piddling, and making things out of wood and iron. He also enjoyed going to Buckville and spending time at his cabin.
Ed died at home on Monday, November 3, 2025, surrounded by his family at the age 91.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Shirley Ann McGhee Vance; daughters, Sue Harness, Rita Jo Mayhugh; brother, Deariel Vance; grandson, Thomas Wilson and a great granddaughter, Brandy Harness.
Survivors: sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie (Sherry) Vance, Robert (Kim) Vance, Jeff (Rhonda) Vance; daughter and son-in-law, Channell (Lenny) Barnes; son-in-law, Larry Harness; brothers, Jewell (Emogene) Vance, John (Joyce) Vance; sister, LaVada Taylor of Sheridan; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren and a host of extended family members and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday November 8, 2025, at TrueHope Church with Bro. Michael Walton and Bro. Jeff Estes officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 until service time.
