Charles Edward "Eddie" Smith of Sheridan, Arkansas was born June 12, 1954, the son of the late James Stergin Smith and Dora Belle Threet Smith. He served in the United States Navy and the United States Army Reserves. He attended Heaven's Trail Cowboy Church in Sheridan, and was retired owner/operator of C.E. Smith Backhoe Service and C.E. Smith Trucking. Eddie truly had a "servant's heart" and lived a life of giving back to others. He founded OTRA Rodeo Association, where he and his wife mentored young people by introducing them to rodeo sport, and also providing them with tack, equipment, meals, transportation, and lots of encouragement.
Mr. Smith died Friday, July 27, 2018 at his home in Sheridan, at the age of 64. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Bennie Jean "B.J." Winston Smith; brothers, Billy Smith, Pete Smith, and Jimmy Ray Smith.
Survivors include his daughter, Crystal Smith Gibbs and husband Russell, of Cabot; son, Chad Edward Smith and wife Susanna of Prattsville; sisters, Lena Belle Pulliam of Cabot, Mary Ann Ware of Louisville, Texas, and Mildred Jarrett of Sheridan; grandchildren, Elizabeth Smith, Madlyn Smith, Clay Smith, Deagan Gibbs, Tony Smith, Brayden Smith, Tyler Smith; he is also survived by numerous other nieces and nephews, including his nephew, James Marvin Smith, who was also a caregiver to him.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan. Burial will follow in Philadelphia Cemetery. Visitation is Monday, 6:00-8:00 P.M.
