Obituary

Eurma V. Merrell Martin, 90, of Jefferson, Arkansas, formerly of Amarillo, Texas died March 6, 2020.

Mrs. Martin was born north of New Mobeetie, Texas, Wheeler County to Thelmer Merrell and Nannie Vititow Merrell. She attended school at Magic City, Texas; Shamrock, Texas; Oakland, California and Erick, Oklahoma. She graduated Borger Texas High School in 1948. She moved to Amarillo, Texas in 1951 from Borger. She attended Amarillo College. She retired from the Purchasing Department at Mason & Hanger-Silas Mason Corp. Pantex Plant in 1972 after seventeen and a half years of service.

She was a member of Redfield Missionary Baptist Church, a former member of The First Baptist Church of Erick, Oklahoma having joined when she was sixteen years of age, a former member of both Grand Avenue Baptist Church and Coulter Road Baptist Church of Amarillo, Texas. She taught Sunday School for many years.

She married "Al" Albert Lee Martin, Jr. on October 12, 1947 in First Baptist Church, Erick, Oklahoma. They lived in Borger, Texas for four years then Amarillo, Texas, from June 1951 to August 2004. They celebrated their fifty years of marriage on October 12, 1997 at Palo Dura Masonic Lodge Building Dining Hall, Amarillo, Texas with family and friends.

She and her husband moved to Jefferson, Arkansas on August 23, 2004. They were married 63 years on October 12, 2010.

Mrs. Martin was a very active member of the Order of the Eastern Star during her adult life. She became an Eastern Star member on May 10, 1965 and served as Worthy Matron 1972-1972 and again 1983-1984. She was Deputy Grand Matron of District II, Section II, Grand Chapter of Texas, Order of the Eastern Star in 1985-1986. She became an Endowed Member of Amarillo Chapter No. 787, Order of the Eastern Star, Grand Chapter of Texas in 1995. She became a duel member of Sheridan Chapter No. 212, Sheridan, Arkansas and Grand Chapter of Arkansas in 2011.

Mrs. Martin was also a very active member of Daughters of the Nile during her adult life. She became a member of Avihk Temple No. 70 Daughters of the Nile in January 1967 in Amarillo, Texas and served as Queen in 1977-1978 and again in 1996-1997. She was given a life membership in 1978 and a Service of Love Plaque in 1997. She held Supreme Appointments three different times. She became a duel member of the Mat-ta-Nah Temple No. 136 Daughters of the Nile, Little Rock, Arkansas, in February 2005. She was also a Past President of Texas Epsilon Chapter of Phi Sigma Alpha.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lee "Al" Martin, Jr. parents, Thelmer and Nannie Merrell, sister Mellie Faye Merrell Lees and granddaughter, Beth Nicole Tucker.

Survivors: son, Albert Lee Martin III of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter, Kathleen Martin-T. Rawls of Jefferson, Arkansas; 3 grandchildren, Chris Martin, Amanda Martin Townly of Fort Worth, Texas and Kimberly Tucker of Jefferson; 8 great grandchildren, Fantasia Rodriguez, Seth Martin, Sierra Townly, Lillie Martin, Journey Martin, all of Fort Worth, Texas, Haylee Tucker, Destiny Tadlock, and Alec Wade Tucker Rawls all of Jefferson, Arkansas; 2 great great grandchildren, Perseus Levi Snider and Delilah June Rodriguez, and many friends and family members across the country.

Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Redfield Missionary Baptist Church in Redfield. Burial will follow at Jones Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 P.m. at the funeral home.
