Obituary

Franklin Pumphrey of Sheridan, Arkansas was born in Prattsville on January 20, 1937 to Nathan Lee Pumphrey and Ardell Burrow Pumphrey. He met the love of his life, Kathleen in 1948 when she was 12 years old. He always said he would have married her then if it had been legal. They would have been married 61 years the 28th of this month.

He died on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at his home at the age of 87.

He was saved and baptized in his early twenties.

In addition to Kathleen, he is survived by two children, Angela and Steven and three grandchildren, Hunter, Hannah, and Tyler.

For most of his adult life he was a truck driver being driver and co-owner of Sheridan Truck Line with his cousin, Freddy Harrington.

Franklin loved gardening. But after Kathleen, his greatest love was music. He attended the Grant County Singing Club-still singing old time convention songs. For fifteen years every Friday night he went to Prattsville and played at the Prattsville "Hooten Nanny", a group of Senior Citizens playing, singing gospel and country music, held at J.W. and Pauline Harrington's home. He missed very few. He was a member of Bill Barnes quartet for 15 or 16 years.

He was a member of Rainbow Wranglers, a local country band for several years. Kathleen and Bobby Vance are the last surviving members of the band.

A Memorial Service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Bradshaw officiating.
