Elijah Gene Funderburg of Sheridan, Arkansas was born March 17, 1953 at Pine Bluff, the son of the late Edison and Opal Mae Thompson Funderburg.  He loved spending time outdoors. Whether hunting or fishing, or just working in general, he liked to be in nature.  He was a carpenter and heavy equipment operator, but his passion, and what he enjoyed most was building/rebuilding motors for vintage cars and hot rods.   He was an extremely gifted mechanic and with just a few tools, he could create a mechanical work of art.

Mr. Funderburg died Sunday, September 3, 2023 at his home in Sheridan at the age of 70.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wayne, Jerald, and Anthony Funderburg.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Elijah Funderburg II (AKA "Dunner") and Britta, Darren Funderburg and Lindsey; brothers, Earney Funderburg (Theresa), Leon Funderburg (Tammy); sisters, Vera Grace, Peggy Goss (Johnny Kyzer), Judy Sisk (Gary); grandchildren, Devin Lambel, Brenden Funderburg, Nayda Barbry, Dalton Funderburg, Erika Opal Funderburg, Emily Aron Funderburg, Courtney Kaylynn Funderburg, Thomas Benjamin Bryar Funderburg. He is also survived by numerous other extended family members and friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Jackson Cemetery near Sheridan (Grant 4608 off of Hwy. 46 N) with Bro. Michael Walton officiating.  Visitation will also be Thursday, from 1:00-1:45 P.M. at the funeral home, then we will go in procession to the cemetery.
