Obituary

Gilbert Morgan Smith of Sheridan died Tuesday, May 6 at Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock at the age of 85. Born June 29, 1922 in Wesson, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Hugh Conrad and Sarah (Cheatham) Smith.

Mr. Smith obtained his Bachelor of Science at Univeristy of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1948. He attended medical school at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for two years and later returned to UA Fayetteville to complete his Masters of Science in Education in 1958.

He was a WWII (Navy) Veteran, retired school teacher having taught at Leola, Prattsville, Whitehall, Dollarway and Sheridan, and a chicken and cattle farmer. He was a member of Lost Creek Missionary Baptist Church and the Faith Sunday School class.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Floy (Smith) Langley and three brothers, Chester Smith, Elmer Smith and Marvin Smith.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Reba (Simpson) Smith, four daughters: Vicki Smith of Bryant, Lori (Ronald) Angel of Maumelle, Terri (Stephen) Weintraub of Arlington, Texas and Judi (Dwight) Simpson of Sheridan, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional compassion and care provided by Dr. Mouhammed Kyasa, the entire staff of the VA Oncology Department, and Arkansas Hospice.

Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Memorial Gardens Funeral home and the funeral will be on Friday at 4:00pm at Memorial Gardens with Bro. Kenneth Click and Bro. Doyle Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow at Lost Creek Cemetery in Sheridan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice.
