Obituary

Gladys Ernestine Cook Shorter, of Sheridan, was born on September 14, 1919, in Pottawattamie County, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Edward Emmett and Fannie Lou Denney Cook.
She left this life in Sheridan, Arkansas on March 18, 2007 at the age of 87 years.

She was a member of the First Orthodox Baptist Church in Ardmore, Oklahoma; a member of American Legion Auxiliary and the Eight & Forty Branch. She was a 1940 graduate of East Central State Teacher's College in Ada, Oklahoma, and worked a variety of jobs through the years, including working as a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II, was a librarian, an elementary schoolteacher and a caseworker for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Paul Shorter and also her son, John M. Shorter.

Survivors are a son David and his wife Jeanne Shorter of Las Cruces, New Mexico
and a daughter, Georgann Smith of Sheridan, Arkansas.
She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren

Graveside Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ardmore, Oklahoma with Bro. Michael Walton officiating. There will no visitation at Sheridan.
