Glen Newton Mathis of Sheridan, Arkansas was born February 27, 1928 in Sheridan, Arkansas, the son of the late John Newton and Ruth Emily McCool Mathis. He was a member of Little Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Sheridan and had served in the United State Marine Corp. He was an active and past member of Sheridan Lodge No. 260, F&AM, past district Deputy Grand Master, District 10 of the Grand Lodge of F&AM of Arkansas. In his spare time, he enjoyed building model railroads one of which is on display at the Grant County Museum.
Mr. Mathis died Friday, July 19, 2013 at Arkansas Hospice Center in Little Rock at the age of 85.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Rutherford and Jamie Pruitt.
Survivors are his nieces and nephews which he referred to as "His Kids"; Dr. Larry Adams of Athens, Alabama, Linda Riggs of Vian, Oklahoma, Judy Darlene McDonald of Bradford, Anita Garner of Dover and Kevin Rutherford of Sheridan and also a host of great nieces and nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 22, 2013 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Danny Hill officiating. Burial will follow with Masonic Rites at Lost Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00 until service time.
Pallbearers will be officers of the Sheridan Masonic Lodge.
