GLENN L. ROWE, age 90, passed away in Sheridan, Arkansas, on September 25, 2011. He was born April 3, 1921, in Point Cedar, Arkansas, to Robert C. Rowe and Elizabeth Hunt Rowe. He was the oldest of four children. He is survived by his wife, Helen G. Rowe, son Bob Rowe (Louanne), Malvern, Arkansas, daughter Rosemary Rowe Hughes (Tony), Toledo, Ohio, granddaughter Jennifer Rowe, Fayetteville, Arkansas, granddaughter Anne Hughes White (Joe), Little Rock, Arkansas, great-grandson Austin Rowe, Bryant, Arkansas, brothers Charles Rowe (Christine), Kansas City, Missouri, Harold Rowe, Sheridan, Arkansas, and sister Betty Wallingsford, of Sheridan, Arkansas. He was predeceased by a grandson, Jeffrey Rowe. He was a member of Cornerstone Apostolic Church in Whitehall, Arkansas.
He married Helen J. Gnagy on October 15, 1943, in Panama City, Florida, and they spent sixty-seven loving years together. He was a veteran serving in the US Army Air Corps from 1941-1945, as a crew chief on B-17's. He was recalled to military duty in 1951-1952, during the Korean Conflict. He was most proud of his service in the military which would later lead him to become very active in The American Legion.
He lived most of his adult life in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and began a business career there with Safeway Stores, Inc. in 1953. During a thirty year career, he became a store manager and retired in 1982. He was President of the local Kiwanis Club, served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Pine Bluff Chamber of Commerce, and was Post Adjutant and Commander of the local American Legion Post 32 and District 9 Commander. He remained active in the American Legion for over forty years. After retiring, he and his wife lived in White Hall, Arkansas, where he devoted much of his time to gardening and spending time with family and friends. He perfected his gardening skills and was known to grow the biggest and best vegetables in the neighborhood most of which he gave away. Outside of his family and gardening, he spent a lot of time with his dogs.
He will be remembered fondly by family members as often saying, "I am not one to give advice but this is what I would do if it were me."
Visitation will be from 6 – 8 pm on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at Memorial Gardens in Sheridan, Arkansas. There will be a graveside service for family members and friends on Thursday, 10:00 am, September 29, 2011, at Lost Creek Cemetery, Sheridan, with Reverend LaVon Post. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Malvern's Restoration and Renovation Fund.
