Obituary

Harold L. King of Sheridan, Arkansas went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 13, 1926, Redlands, California, the son of the late Samuel Martin King, II, and Cordelia King of Sheridan, Arkansas. He attended Arkadelphia High School and Ouachita Baptist College. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944 and served as an officer and a liaison pilot in the Allied Occupation of Japan from 1945 to 1947 when he was honorably discharged at the rank of 1st Lieutenant in 1947. He later served in the Army Reserve.
He married the love of his life, Orlen Lemke, in 1952. He received a law degree from the former Arkansas Law School and practiced law for over 50 years. He served as a Senator in the Arkansas General Assembly from 1971 to 1980, and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Grant County.
He is survived by his wife Orlen King, sons Harold Lloyd King, Jr. and his wife Susan, of Raleigh, North Carolina, James King and his wife Sandy, of North Little Rock, Arkansas, daughters Sandra Burgess of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Dianna Newton and husband Robert, of Shannon Hills, Arkansas, twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, his sister Brenda Kaye McDonough, and his brothers Samuel Martin King, III, and Randall Francis King. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Joan Boggess, of England, Arkansas, and his son John Martin King, of Sheridan, Arkansas.
Visitation will be held at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, Sheridan, Arkansas on December 10, 2010, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Marvin Chapel Cemetery on December 11, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Samuel M. King, III, Randall Francis King, Michael J. King, Alexander Harold Burgess, Allan McKinney, Leonard Green, and M.J. Green. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718
