Obituary

Jack Melton Irvin M.D. of Sheridan, Arkansas was born November 13, 1920 in Prattsville, Arkansas the son of the late Robert Henry and Hazel Cora Hope Irvin.

Dr. Irvin died Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Sheridan Healthcare and Rehab Center at the age of 89. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianna Kay Irvin Jankey and a sister Betty Murphy.

He was a 1938 Sheridan High School Graduate, attended Henderson College, the University of Arkansas Medical School and completed his residency at Bowman-Gray Hospital in Pathology in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

He had served on the Sheridan School Board for 20 years, was a member of the Silver Sneakers Fitness at Sheridan Water and Wellness, a member of First Baptist Church in Sheridan, served on the Grant County Museum Board, a member of the American Medical Association, a member of the Sheridan Golf and Country Club and a double member of both Sheridan and East End PTA.

Dr. Irvin served in the Army and worked for a large hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan, ane was later employed in the medicinal laboratory at the base on Governor's Island Hospital in New York City, His travels and work took him many places and he worked for many hospitals, but he eventually found himself back home in Grant County where he was a physician for 53 years.

Dr. Irvin is survived by his loving and devoted wife Margery Lee Cotton Irvin, whom he married November 28, 1942;
A son and daughter in law, Robert and Debra Irvin of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Jackie Irvin Campbell of Jacksonville; a brother Joe Bob Irvin of Richmond, Virginia; a sister, Lucille Irvin Bradford of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and grandchildren, Carol Campbell of Sheridan, Christie and husband Dean Halijan of Sherwood, Jack Campbell of Sheridan, and great grandchildren, Kalon Campbell and Aerin Campbell both of Sheridan.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, June 18, 2010 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Arlis East and Bro. Michael Walton officiating. Burial will follow at Lost Creek Cemetery in Sheridan. Visitation: 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
