Obituary

James Andrew Baker of Grapevine, Arkansas was born December 19, 1940 in Pine Bluff, the son of the late Andrew and Pauline Hester Baker.

James passed away Sunday January 21st at his home with his family at his side at the age of 83.

James graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1959 then started a career at Burnham News Agency until 1966, when he went to work for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier, later on he became the union president until he retired in 1979. After moving to Grapevine in 1996 James went to work for Hendry Oil Co. as a bulk plant manager. He was also a member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his three brothers Tommy, Ray, and Joe Baker as well as his daughter Donna Jackson. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Sallie H. Baker; sons Charles Scott Hopkins (Sharon) and Byron Keith Hopkins; sister Lavern Kelly of Oklahoma; sister-in-law Marveline Baker, grandsons Matthew Todd Pruitt, CJ Hopkins, and Holland Elizabeth Hopkins, as well as several nieces and nephews and his church family and special friends Butch and Carolyn Kelley.

A Memorial service will be held Wednesday January 31st, 2024 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. with Bro. David Leopard officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M.  until service time.
