Obituary

James Guy Mayfield (Jim) of Sheridan, Arkansas passed away at his home at the age of 80.   Jim was born April 30, 1943 in Camden Arkansas, to the late Guy David and Ollie Estelle Mayfield. He was a member and Sunday school teacher at First Landmark Baptist Church.  For over 30 years, he humbly served as a deacon.   He truly loved God, his family, church, and friends.  For over 40 years he was the voice of the Sheridan Yellowjackets, a role he cherished.  He was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law Gilbert David and Evelyn Reynolds. sister-in-law Anita Reynolds Mooney, and brother Jerry David Mayfield.

He is survived by wife of 61 years Margaret Reynolds Mayfield, two sons, Jeffrey Steven Mayfield, MD and wife Susan, Mark Alan Mayfield, JD and his wife Kara.   Grandchildren, Madison Mayfield, DC, Mallory (Dillon) Wester, Matthew Mayfield, Victoria Mayfield, Celia Mayfield, and great grandchild, Miles Wester. Sister-in-law Julia Reynolds, Brother-in-law David Reynolds and his wife Leah, many nieces and nephews, longtime friends, Franklin and Phana Johnson, and special dog Piper.

He worked for the State of Arkansas for over 35 years. He ended his work career at Lunday and Associates, where he developed a special relationship with Brett Lunday.

Franklin Johnson, Wade Lunday, Braden Lunday, Al Mangrum, Bruce Tipton, and Randy Mooney will serve as pallbearers.  The deacons of First Landmark Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel.  The funeral service will follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Shawn Hill officiating.  Burial will be at Lost Creek Cemetery immediately after the service.

The family would like to thank the caregivers of Saline Memorial Hospice for their compassionate and dignified service and care.
