Jerry Edward Newton of Leola, Arkansas was born November 30, 1933 at Leola, the son of the late Carl E. and Emma Myers Newton. He was a member of Leola Missionary Baptist Church where he belonged to the Men's Sunday School Class and the Men's BTC Class. Mr. Newton served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, was a retired supervisor at International Paper, enjoyed working in his yard, on his farm and raising cattle. His greatest times were spent with his family whom he loved with all his heart.
Mr. Newton died Friday, June 22, 2007 at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock at the age of 73. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, R.G., Bob, and Bruce Newton.
Survivors include his wife and best friend, Mada Clemons Newton of Leola. They were married July 16, 1954. Other survivors are his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry R. and Ouida Newton of Leola; Daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Larry Shuff of Leola; Sister-in-law, Sylvia Newton of Leola; Grandchildren, Jeremy and wife Sarah Shuff, Mandy and husband Jamie Webb, and Brad and wife Julie Newton. Great Grandchildren, Emilee Webb, Carter Webb, Caden Shuff. and one on the way.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Leola Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Johnie Brewster and Bro. Shelton Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Taylor Cemetery at Leola. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Mickey Williams, Robert O'Neal, Robert Newton, Bobby Daniel, Randy Groomes and Steven Bibb. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ben Smith, Jimmie Ledbetter, Wallace Ford, Kevin Hopkins, Mike Lobb and Arvis McCrackin. The family wants to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Marianne Harrington and staff and the Hematology/Oncology clinic at Benton and all of the staff on the oncology floor at St. Vincent's.
