IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jerry
Reid
December 27, 1952 – June 29, 2021
Jerry Bart Reid, of Sheridan, Arkansas, departed this world to meet the Lord on June 29th, 2021. Jerry was born on December 27th, 1952, the son of James and Willa Dean Bonner Reid.
Jerry was reared in Grant County by his beloved grandparents, John and Dovie Bonner, affectionately known as Daddy John and Mother Dovie. Both preceded him in death. Jerry attended Sheridan Public Schools where he excelled in sports, setting some records which have yet to be broken. He began dating a Watson Chapel girl his Junior year in high school and the rest is history, as they say. Following his high school education, he joined Susan at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where he majored in Political Science, and received his Bachelor of Art degree in the Summer of 1975. They both shared a deep love for Fayetteville and a lifelong love for the Razorbacks. Before Bart was born, they seriously considered moving back there but Jerry could not bring himself to leave Sheridan.
Following college graduation, he and Susan began their life in Sheridan, the place he loved most and would always call home. He invested much of himself through the decades in Grant County. He was Director of Parks and Recreations to County Judge Veo Easley, a friend and personal mentor. He was promoted to Administrative Assistant as his responsibilities expanded. In that capacity, Jerry secured millions of dollars in grants and monies for facilities to be built in Grant County. The Cox Creek project was over a million at that time and was a tremendous undertaking. Other projects included the building of tennis courts, softball and baseball fields as well as in providing monies to the Grant County Museum, the Fire Department and the Recreation Center. This devotions to his hometown continued in the business community with his accomplishments in insurance (Shelter) and as a certified financial planner for Edward Jones.
Following retirement, you rarely saw "Pops" around town without Mason, his first grandson. There were special circumstances and needs, and Jerry found perhaps his greatest calling in helping secure a future for Mason. He took him to stores, taught him to introduce himself and shake hands (firmly), and dress like Pops…..and nobody dressed better than Pops! Jerry was raised to be respectful and polite. He believed in treating others as he would want to be treated. It was easy to like Jerry Reid. As a result, he had many, many lifelong friendships that continued up until his illness and death.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 47-years, Susan Boas Reid, his son Bart Reid (Jamie), and three grandchildren, Mason, Lilly, and Wilson Reid. He has two brothers, William David Reid (Bill) of Las Vegas, Nevada and Michael Gotowka of Seattle Washington. Other family members include DeAnne and Jimmy Murphy of Hamburg, Arkansas, Lynn and John Hulette and Ila and Louis Campbell of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Carol T. Boas, mother-in-law of Hamburg, Arkansas. Also mourning his loss but cherishing his memories are a host of nieces and nephews …Jim, Jon (Jenny) and Olivia Murphy, Ginny Lauren (Tom) Dowden, Shepherd (Ashley) Campbell and Steadman (Tara) Campbell, and Caroline (Jerry) Faulkner as well as all their children who loved Jerry so very much. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Tommy 2 Shoes and cat, Agent Kay.
