Jewell Crutchfield Paxton, born 9 August 1925 in Prattsville, Arkansas, died Sunday, 18 January 2009, in San Antonio after a short but fierce battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma. She was the daughter of the late James Walter and Elizabeth Williams Crutchfield. She grew up in the Paxton community and lived there until moving to Little Rock after graduation from high school to attend business school and work. She married Tom Lynn Paxton, the love of her life, 1 June 1946, and began her life as a military wife—a life which took her further than she ever imagined from Prattsville. When Tom retired from the military in 1964, the family settled down in San Antonio, Texas. No matter how far she traveled, she treasured and maintained close ties with her family and friends in Prattsville and around the country. The importance of family is perhaps the greatest lesson in life that she instilled in her own family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Paula Rae Poe and Marceline Giuliani and beloved twin brother, James. Survivors in addition to her cherished husband, Tom, include daughters: Judith Lynn and Jerry Hyndman of San Antonio and Lisbeth and Allen Kirsh of Austin; sister, Jamie York of Prattsville; grandchildren: Paxton and Morgan Kirsh and Krystal, Michael and Lisa Hyndman; and nieces: Linda and Steve Lichina of Gibsonia, Penn., Emily and Chuck Richesin of Little Rock, and Kay Crutchfield of Little Rock; great-nephews and great-nieces: Steve Lichina, David and April Lichina, Ross Richesin, and Sommer Richesin. A memorial service will be held Friday, 23 January 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, 9346 Hwy 270 W, Prattsville, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Shriner's Hospital for Children-Galveston, Attn: Administration, 815 Market Street, Galveston, Texas 77550; the Grant County Museum; or the charity of choice.
