Jewell Elrod Wynne, of Sheridan, Arkansas was born November 15, 1925 at Prattsville, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Lester and Roxie Benning Elrod. She was a member of Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church in Prattsville. During the early to mid 1960's, Mrs. Wynne was a cook at Prattsville School. During the late 1960's, she worked for Brown furniture and owned a gas station in the early 1970's. One of her proudest accomplishments was being one of the founders of the Grant County Civil Defense. She later retired after 20 years of service as the coordinator for Grant County Office of Emergency Services (O.E.S.)/CSEPP. Mrs. Wynne was a proud and active citizen of Grant County and she worked very hard to provide it's citizens with much needed emergency services.
Mrs. Wynne died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Sheridan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 86. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Carl Edward Wynne; sisters, Faye Stuckey, Nina Crutchfield, Evelyn Pool, Remagene Holiman and Henerette Moore; great granddaughter, Trisha Crouse and great grandson, Phillip Wynne.
Survivors: Son, Buddy Wynne and wife Marsha of Plattsburg, New York; Daughters, Peggy Thomas and husband T.J. of Sheridan and Phyllis Paxton and husband Stuart of East End; Sisters, Janette Phillips of Malvern and Jewell's twin sister, Gearline Moser of Little Rock; Grandchildren, Pam Thomas Crouse and husband Paul of Sheridan, Buffy Thomas Workman and husband David of Sheridan, Amy Wynne Seymour and husband Pat of Chazy, New York, Jewelie Wynne Koutelis and husband Mike of Delamar, New York, Missy Wynne Couture and husband Nick of Chazy, New York, Daniel Reed and wife Amanda of Sheridan and Bobby Reed and wife Rhonda of Sheridan; Great Grandchildren, Jenna and Andy Crouse, Alicia and Laura Workman, Justin, Lindsey, Jenna, and Olivia Seymour, Yanni and Alexsander Koutelis, Brianna, Gabby, and Matthew Wynne, Sophia Couture, and Cade and Avery Reed; She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 17, 2012, Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan with Bro. David Workman and Bro. Jeff Lisenbey officiating. Burial will be at Philadelphia Cemetery in Prattsville. Visitation is from 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, until service time. Serving as pallbearers are Jewell's friends who were members of the Hurricane Creek Hunting Club, where, in years past, she served as the camp cook. They are: David Reynolds, Jeff Hicks, Eddie Hicks, Brian Tull, Gene Thomas, and Mike Mayo.
