Obituary

Jimmy Ray Winston was born on August 14, 1951, in Malvern, Arkansas, and passed away on April 19, 2026, peacefully at home with his devoted wife of almost fifty years by his side. Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Mahlon and Reba Winston, his grandparents Elmer and Laura Wisely, Brian and Vera Ellen Winston, and his brothers Jerry Winston and Ricky Winston all of Sheridan, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife Cynthia Culpepper Winston, several cousins, a host of nieces, nephews, and many lifelong friends.

Jimmy was a lifelong, devoted Christian and a true student of the Bible, having given his life to the Lord at the age of fourteen. He was later baptized at Jenkins Ferry on the Saline River. He was a graduate of the Class of 1969 at Sheridan High School, where he was a standout football player, and that same determination and strong work ethic stayed with him throughout his life. He met the love of his life, Cindy, in 1972 and they were married on August 28, 1976.

Jimmy spent many years working in the timber industry, where he was known as a hard worker you could count on. He also proudly served in the Army National Guard. Jimmy lived his life grounded in faith, family, and treating people the way you’d want to be treated. He built the home where he and Cindy lived, using his remarkable talents and ability to build just about anything, a place that reflected his pride, care, and commitment to providing for his family. He also found a lot of joy in hunting, fishing, and enjoying nature, where he felt closest to the Lord. More than anything, Jimmy loved to share his faith, often telling others about Jesus and the importance of knowing Christ as the way to heaven.

Jimmy’s service will be held at Memorial Gardens in Sheridan, Arkansas, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM, with interment at Lost Creek Cemetery to follow.

Pallbearers are Jerry McCool, Eddie Paul Woodall, Franklin Thomason, Mack Johnson, Danny Sites, and Steve Gartman.

In lieu of flowers, food, or gifts, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or Lost Creek Missionary Baptist Church (P.O. Box 337, Sheridan, AR 72150).
