Obituary

Joey Kevin Wheless of Sheridan, Arkansas was born May 31, 1957, at Springhill, Louisiana, the son of the late Claud W. and Mary Lucille Hill Wheless.   He was a member and Deacon at Providence Missionary Baptist Church near Sheridan, and was was retired from Falcon Jet.  Joey loved serving God through his gift of music.  He could play virtually any instrument, and any genre, from classical to southern gospel,  and he did it with great passion.  In recent years, he and his sister would often get to play for church services, one on the piano, the other on the organ.  He was a living encyclopedia of movie knowledge.  He didn't just know titles, but also who starred in it, when it was released, and every other bit of trivia imaginable.  His favorites were John Ford westerns, but his knowledge was definitely not limited to just them.  Joey was a big kid at heart with an incredible sense of humor.  He loved nothing more than playing with children and enjoying their laughter.

Mr. Wheless died Saturday, August 6, 2022 at his home, at the age of 65.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Rosie Wheless (formerly of Logansport, Louisiana) and Loyd and Onie Hill (formerly of Springhill, Louisiana).

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Barbara Noel Wheless of Sheridan; sister and brother-in-law, Vicki and Garry O'Steen of Sheridan; nephew, Kevin (Miranda) O'Steen and their children, Graycee (Cody Ross), Gunner, Gage, Grady; niece, Wendy O'Steen (fiancé Matt Warmack), and her children, Madison (Beau Shilling), Hannah (Dalton Irvin), Garrett; grand-great niece Kelsey Faye Shilling.  He is also survived by numerous other extended family members, Church family, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan, with Bro. Michael Walton and Bro. James Lybrand officiating.  Burial will be in Lost Creek Cemetery.  Visitaiton is Wednesday, 6:00-8:00 P.M.  at the funeral home.
