John Milton Brewer, 86, of Ft. Smith, passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Sparks Regional Hospital following a brief illness. He was a resident of Covington Court Nursing Home. He was born in Sheridan on December 4, 1924, to Joe and Carrie Camp Brewer. After living most of his life there, he moved to Conway for several years and later moved to Ft. Smith.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Johnson and grandson Michael Brewer. Survivors are his wife of 66 years, June Anita Squires Brewer , son and daughter-in-law John and Dara Brewer of Ft. Smith; son and daughter-in-law George and Jackie Brewer of Pine Bluff; daughter Elaine Fletcher of Fayetteville; sons Wiburn Brewer and Carroll Brewer; son-in-law Bobby Johnson and Jackie Hewitt of Conway; sister Lexie Skorcz of Sheridan; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was a World War II Veteran and a 32nd Degree Mason. During his years of employment, he worked diligently to accomplish whatever task was before him. He enjoyed watching the Razorbacks, talking politics and history (especially Grant County History), writing nature poems, and cracking jokes. He loved making people laugh. He loved life and his family. He will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Sheridan. Visitation is from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at New Hope Cemetery.
