John W. Cole, Jr. was born October 6, 1942 in Sheridan to Dr. John W. and Gracie Mae “Frank” Cole. He was a retired Circuit Judge for the 7th District, after which he was contacted by the State Office of the Courts to handle trials all across the state. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Prattsville, and was an avid reader and outdoorsman, with a special passion for fishing.

Mr. Cole passed away peacefully, March 3, 2026, with his loving wife, Mary Kervin Cole, by his side. In addition to Mary, he is survived by his son, John Lee Cole (Christina) of Malvern; stepson, Barry Benning (Lisa) of Bismarck; sisters, Charlie Chaffin of Benton and Robin Glass (Jim) of Arkadelphia; along with a number of beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Frank Cole.

At John’s request, there will be no public services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harmony Baptist Church, P.O. Box 37, Prattsville, Arkansas 72129 to assist in their renovations or to The Grant County Library.
