John L. Crouse of Sheridan, Arkansas was born May 24, 1932 near Sheridan, Arkansas, the son of the late O.J. "Pud" and Hazel "Momma Happy" Gartman Crouse. He served in the US Army for 3 years during the Korean War. He was a retired insurance agent and loved to play golf, especially with his sons and grandsons.
John L. died Friday, May 10, 2019 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock at the age of 86.
He was a member of First Landmark Baptist Church in Sheridan where he had served as church clerk, music director and sang in the choir.
He was a 1950 graduate of Sheridan High School, and a 1958 graduate of the University of Arkansas with a marketing degree.
He was past Chairman of the Board of the Grant County Museum, past president of Park Plaza Lions Club in Little Rock, past member of Sheridan School Board and past president of Grant County Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife Sue also owned and operated The Blacksmith Pizza Shop in Sheridan for many years.
John L. enjoyed bluebirds and building bluebird houses. He built 25 a year and gave them away. He had a giving heart and he truly loved his family dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Trisha Lynn Crouse.
Survivors: loving wife and best friend for 62 years, Sue Benning Crouse of Sheridan; sons, Russell (Edye) Crouse of Bryant, Paul (Pam) Crouse of Sheridan; daughter, Liza (Steven) Bray of Conway; brother, Billy Ray (Diana) Crouse of Sheridan; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and one on the way and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Shawn Hill and Bro. DeHaan Thornton officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery in Prattsville. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Chris Winston, Andy Crouse, Dillon Crouse, Cliff Crouse, Cody Bray, Carson Bray, David Reynolds, and Richard Alonzo.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Landmark Baptist Church, 402 West Center, Sheridan, Arkansas 72150 or Grant County Museum, 521 Shackleford Road, Sheridan, Arkansas 72150.
