John H. Culpepper, 95, of Sheridan, Arkansas passed away on September 24, 2024. He was born August 23, 1929 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to J. Harry and Wilma Culpepper.
In 1949, John married Edna Cogbill and became parents of a daughter, Sandra. After their divorce, John married Bonnie Brigham and were parents of sons, Johnny, Jimmy, and C.D.
He served in the Army's 11th Airborne Paratroop Division and as Court Recorder for court martial trials. John was a member of the Airborne Rangers during the Korean War.
As a young man, John was employed as landman in right-of-way acquisition offices for pipeline jobs from Alaska to Maryland and points in between. He received the Landman of the Year Award.
When he left the pipeline industry, he worked for the Arkansas Highway Department, first as negotiator, and later as Property Manager and was promoted to Assistant Chief of Acquisition.
John experimented with various business pursuits as an entrepreneur. He especially enjoyed writing, and won contests in several genres and was published in a half dozen magazines and periodicals. He was a member of the National Storytellers Association and the TEJAS Storytelling Association and was elected Sergeant-At-Arms in the Kerrville, Texas chapter of Toastmasters International.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Davis of South Jordan, Utah; his sons, Johnny Culpepper of Dallas, Texas and C.D. Culpepper Rogers, Texas; dear friend and devoted companion, Rose Hedden, in addition to 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Versil, Aubrey, Bill, Gene; son, Jimmy Culpepper; and granddaughter, Sheila Hert.
A graveside service will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 27, 2024 at Center Grove Cemetery near Sheridan. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00 until service time at the funeral home.
