Obituary

Larry Wayne Harris of Sheridan, Arkansas died peacefully on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at his home on his 70 th birthday. He was born December 26, 1947 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the youngest of 13 children born to the late Ivy and Vida Tackett Harris.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, J.B., Bobby, Glen, and Jerry; sisters, Velma, Helen, Wanda, and Patsy, an infant son, Auston and his father-in-law, Truitt Smith.

He was a graduate of Sheridan High School, a member of the American Legion, and an active member of First Landmark Baptist Church in Sheridan, where he served his Lord faithfully as an usher and greeter. He had served his country in the US Army for 13 years, having fought in the Vietnam War. He received the Bronze Star and was awarded the Army Commendation with Valor. He had just retired in November from the Pine Bluff Arsenal as a hazardous material handler.

Larry was an avid sport enthusiast, never missing a Sheridan Yellowjacket ball game or an Arkansas Razorback game. He enjoyed watching sports on TV and spending time with his family.

Survivors: wife, Bonnie Sue Smith Harris of Sheridan; sons, Michael (Schellee) Harris of Amarillo, Texas, Shelton Harris of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter, Missy (Shawn) Johnson of Hensley; sisters, Bea Demetrulias of Cahokia, Illinois, Betty Sebourn of Mabelvale, Barbara Walker of Prattsville; mother-in-law, Jerri Smith of Sheridan; grandchildren, Britni Harris and Shawn Johnson, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.

Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 29, 2017 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Shawn Hill officiating. . Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation: 12:30 until service time also at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Bob Tannahill, Denny Smith, Biff Smith, Danny Smith, Paul Crutchfield, Nicholas Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Cotner, Jimmy Flowers, Almonte Smith, Robert Battles, Justin Ghettis, Allen Huff, Felicia Thomas, Karen Whitlow, Scott Givens, and Roderick Rembrandt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Larry's name to the Austin Moody Scholarship Fund, c/o First Landmark Baptist Church, 402 West Center, Sheridan, Arkansas 72150.
