Larry D. Weatherly, 76, of Sheridan, Arkansas went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
Born July 10, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Herman "H.E." Weatherly and Laverne Ferguson Weatherly.
Larry graduated from Watson Chapel High School in 1967 and later attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
He wasted no time at all marrying the love of his life, Shelia Varner, on August 22, 1970. So little time in fact that the marriage was planned well before a proposal ever occurred. Larry called his parents the night of his first date to inform them of this future plan. Two months later, he was engaged, and in two more months, a union was created that would last over 55 years at the time of his passing.
Larry proudly enlisted on April 22, 1968, serving on Active Duty with the U.S. Air Force as a Programming Specialist until he separated at the rank of E-4 / Sergeant on April 21, 1972.
He was employed as a draftsman with Varco Pruden in Pine Bluff for 10 years, and then served as master planner for the Department of Public Works at the Pine Bluff Arsenal, retiring after 26 years of federal service on January 3, 2009.
Larry enjoyed working in his shop, primarily wood carving, researching the military service of his father, reading, playing games and watching tv with his kids, forcing them to eat their vegetables, and engaging in never-ending conversations with his wife.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother, Dennis.
In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his brothers, Garry and David; sister, Regina "Von"; a daughter, Shannon Weatherly; a son, Morgan Weatherly; three grandchildren, Dakota, Evan, and Ethan; and seven great-grandchildren.
His family participated in a private viewing on Saturday, January 31.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, with Paster Kenneth Click officiating.
The interment will occur at a future date this coming spring.
