IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lois Elder
Easterly
November 17, 1933 – July 13, 2025
Lois Elaine Elder Easterly, 91, of Sheridan, peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. She was born on November 17, 1933, in Jacksonville, Arkansas, to William B. Elder and Ruby Caldwell Elder.
A proud graduate of Prattsville High School's Class of 1952, Lois dedicated much of her life to serving Grant County with distinction. She spent many years in public office, first as County Assessor and later as Circuit and County Clerk, retiring in 1993. Her commitment to public service earned her lifetime memberships in both the Arkansas Assessors Association and the Arkansas County and Circuit Clerk Association. She often spoke of her time in public service as a privilege and took great pride in her community involvement.
In her early retirement years, Lois enjoyed fishing and traveling. However, her greatest joy came from her family—her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the absolute highlight of her life. She delighted in sharing countless pictures and stories about them with anyone who would listen, her face lighting up with every tale.
Faith was central to Lois's life. She was a devoted member of First Landmark Baptist Church in Sheridan, where she participated in the Grace Sunday School Class and OWLS ministry. Blessed with a beautiful singing voice, she found deep joy in both listening to and performing gospel music.
For the past four years, Lois made her home at Crownpoint Assisted Living Facility in Sheridan. While she would often say "it wasn't her house," she acknowledged it had become home. There, she embraced life fully—playing dominoes and bingo, attending exercise classes, enjoying her morning coffee on the swing, taking trips to Walmart and local restaurants with friends, and brightening everyone's day as she strolled the halls with a kind word for all she met. A special blessing of her time there was when her lifelong friend, Sue Crouse, moved into the room next door, bringing their friendship full circle.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Edna Elder Benning; her brothers, Virgil, James, and WL "Brownie" Elder; and her beloved sons, Kim, Jimmy, and Toney Easterly.
She is survived by her son, Wayne Easterly (Debbie) of Houston, Texas, and daughter, Judi Easterly Castleberry (Donnie) of Camden. Her loving legacy continues through her grandchildren: Stephanie Easterly Hayslip (Michael) of White Hall, Stacy Easterly Johnson (Jason) of Houston, Texas, Bethany Castleberry Rutledge (Adam) of Fayetteville, Caleb Castleberry (Jenna) of Sheridan, Daniel Castleberry (Rebekah) of Benton, Josh Easterly (Ashley) of Sheridan, and Julie Pacheco (Joe) of Malvern. She also leaves behind cherished great-grandchildren: Ainsley, Amelia, and Jackson Johnson of Houston, Texas; Porter, Hudson, and Ramsey Rutledge of Fayetteville; Audry and Cache Castleberry of Sheridan; Nora Castleberry of Benton; Noah Householder, and Briar and Analyn Pacheco of Malvern. Along with many nieces, nephews and other family members.
Memorial service will be held Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 3:00 PM at First Landmark Baptist Church in Sheridan, with Brother Shawn Hill and DeHaan Thornton officiating. Burial will follow at Lost Creek Cemetery in Sheridan.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 16, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Sheridan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Landmark Baptist Church in Sheridan, Arkansas, a place that was beloved and dear to Lois's heart.
