Mattie Lola Johnson Newsom Wortman of Des Arc, Arkansas was born October 4, 1927 in Grant County Arkansas, the daughter of the late Paul H. and Mary Lessie Ault Johnson. She was a member of the Lakeside Missionary Baptist Church and was retired from First Pyramid Life Insurance Company of America where she was a pioneer in computer programming in the insurance industry. She was also a member of the Insurance Women's Association.

Mrs. Wortman died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at White County Medical Center in Searcy, Arkansas at the age of 83.

Mrs. Wortman was preceded in death by her husband, and son's father, George A. Newsom of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Mrs. Wortman is survived by her husband of 35 years, Carlton Wortman of Des Arc, Arkansas; her son, Edwin George Newsom and wife Barbara Fowler Newsom of Keller, Texas; her grandchildren, Christian George Newsom of Austin, Texas and Michelle Newsom Irwin, husband Scott, and their children Abby and Lily of North Richland Hills, Texas; her stepsons, Carlton Wortman Jr. of Beebe, Arkansas and Douglas Wortman of Greers Ferry, Arkansas; her step-daughters, Donna Burns of Cabot, Arkansas and Cindy Wortman of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by her sisters Valeta Young and husband Frank Lee of Sheridan, Arkansas; Bonnie Blackford and husband Derrick of Slidell, Texas; Martha Barnes Sneed and husband Chuck of Sheridan, Arkansas; Mary DeBono of Sheridan, Arkansas; and Reba Cargile of Conway, Arkansas. She was loved by 10 step-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Lola was a very kind and soft-spoken individual. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and was active in her church. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her sisters and extended family.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 7, 2011 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home chapel in Sheridan, Arkansas with Bro. Danny Brown of Greers Ferry, Arkansas and Bro. Danny Hill of Sheridan, Arkansas officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander, Arkansas. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday, March 6, 2011 and from 9:00 AM to service time on Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ross Barnes, Chris Newsom, Jeffrey Reidhar, Johnny Reidhar, Brad Wortman, Chad Wortman, and Doug Wortman.
