Mable Jo (Turner) Umholtz of Sheridan died March 26. This Christian woman lived 80 years.
Born Feb. 9, 1941 to Cecil Edmund Turner and Violet Mae (Flemens) Turner in Newhope, Ark., Jo was the seventh of 11 children and is the current matriarch. She grew up in Clarendon and graduated from Clarendon High School, then attended the Missionary Baptist Seminary where she met future husband Gale Umholtz. They wed Aug. 29, 1962.
Jo attended Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Sheridan, where Gale preached until his death. They returned to Arkansas after serving Greeley Missionary Baptist Church in Greeley, Colorado for 18 years. She worked for Greeley's District 6 School District in the school kitchens and then as the Food Service secretary until the family returned to Arkansas, where she worked at the Arkansas Crime Information Center until her retirement. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, flower arranging, decorating cakes, and raising houseplants.
Preceded in death by husband, Gale, Jo's survivors include son L.D. Umholtz and wife Sharon of Mabelvale; son Lawton Umholtz and wife Angie of Theodore, Alabama; daughter Sheri Umholtz of Sheridan; Grandchildren: Dustin (Anna), Brittany, Wesley, Daniel (Krista), Crystal (Matthew), Kyle (Alexis), Marissa, Lauren, Emily and Darby; Great-Grandchildren: Katelynn, Ireland, Lilly, Iris, Willow, Emersyn, Henry, Kaelar, Evelynn, Logan, and Joel; brother Cecil Turner, Jr. and wife Merriam of Clarendon; sister Joan and husband Joe Mathews of Sheridan; sister Paula and husband Eugene Huge of Seminole, Texas; and sister-in-law Rebecca Sitton of North Little Rock.
Memorial Gardens Funeral Home will host the visitation March 30 at 6 – 8 P.M. Funeral services will be at 1 P.M. March 31 st at the funeral home with interment following at Pinecrest Memorial Park 7401 Hwy 5. N in Alexander at 3 p.m.
Pallbearers will include Dustin Umholtz, Wesley Umholtz, Daniel Umholtz, Kyle Davis, Eddie Turner, Gerald Ray Turner, Buster Turner.
Donations may be made to Providence Missionary Baptist Church, Sheridan, Arkansas.
