Marie Roberts Holmes,of Sheridan, Arkansas, was born November 21, 1919 near Sheridan, the daughter of the late Luther Albert and Pearl Marie Campbell Roberts. She was the oldest living member of Little Creek Missionary Baptist Church, and has been a member there for most of her life. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, and watching her "stories" on television. For many years, she worked as a cook at Essie's Restaurant in Sheridan. Her greatest joy in life was serving the Lord and enjoying making memories with the large family He blessed her with.
Mrs. Holmes went to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at her home in Sheridan, surrounded by her family, at the age of 95. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Leo Holmes; daughter, Glendell Juanita Brooks; and a son, Edward Holmes, Jr.
Survivors include her sons, Calvin Holmes of Alexander, James Leo Holmes of Choctaw, Oklahoma, and Jimmy Holmes of Sheridan; 17 grandchildren, and she was also blessed with a large number of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and other family members and friends.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Little Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Sheridan, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Sheridan. Memorials may be made to Little Creek Missionary Baptist Church Parking Lot Fund.
Pallbearers are Jonathan Rolett, Jay Holmes, Tommy Brooks, Elrod Roberts, Wayne Roberts and Dean Roberts. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Holmes, Jeremy Holmes, Rusty Brooks, Darron Holmes, Anthony Holmes, Clayton Holmes and Adrain Holmes.
