Obituary

E. Marjorie Hubbard Van Hole, 86, of Sheridan, Arkansas, died January 7, 2011,
from a stroke suffered a few days earlier. She was born April 8, 1924 in
Sheridan, the daughter of Nathan and Ora Craig Hubbard. She attended
Little Creek school and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1943.
In 1943-'44, she worked in Washington, D. C., assigned to the War Department, Chief of
Staff Notification Clerk, Casualty Branch, compiling information on military
personnel who were wounded, dead or missing in action. She worked two years
in the property division as a bill of lading clerk, first at Pine Bluff Arsenal,
transferring later to Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, and moved to St. Louis, Missouri in
1946, where she resided with her sister, Rocele Shero and family, and began her
career with the Veterans Administration Regional Office, retiring after 35 years.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and a past Worthy Matron of
Freeburg Chapter #542, Order of Eastern Star at Freeburg, Illinois, and later
became a member of the Sheridan Chapter.
In 1964, Marjorie married Phillip J. Van Hole. They lived in Belleville, Illinois,
until they retired and moved back to Sheridan in 1983. They built two homes east
of Sheridan, and enjoyed gardening, landscaping and decorating their home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Van Hole; two brothers,
Jimmy Ray Hubbard and William R. Hubbard; her parents, Nathan D. and Ora
Craig Hubbard, and a nephew, Henry C. Shero. Survivors include her sister,
Rocele Shero of Gatewood, Missouri; three nieces, Susan Ninness of Gatewood,
Missouri, Iris Wylie and Ginny Hubbard, both of Rogersville, Missouri; three
great nieces and three great nephews.
Visitation is scheduled from noon until 2 p. m. on Friday, January 14 at
Memorial Gardens Chapel in Sheridan, followed immediately by the
funeral service conducted by the Reverend John Fleming and a ceremony by OES
members. Burial will be at Lost Creek Cemetery.
